良心

Dear Friends of ACRES,

Asia’s bears are facing a constant battle to survive because of the cruel trade in their body parts. Thousands of bears continue to endure pain and suffering every day on bear farms just so that their bile can be extracted, and their gall bladders are removed once they are slaughtered.

ACRES continues to combat this illicit trade both in Singapore and Lao PDR. I am delighted to inform you that the work of our Wildlife Crime Unit yesterday resulted in another seizure of a bear gall bladder in Singapore.

At 4.30pm yesterday, we received a call on our 24-hour Wildlife Crime Hotline with regard to a stall at the Singapore Food Expo selling a bear gall bladder. ACRES responded immediately and our investigators arrived at the scene within 30 minutes.

The investigators were told by the seller that the gall bladder (selling for S$700) was from a bear and was from China. He had only one gall bladder left as he had already sold the rest. If we gave him a call he could order more for us and have them delivered to Singapore.

We contacted AVA whose officers responded immediately and seized the product. AVA is currently investigating the case.

Our heartfelt thanks to the caller who provided us with the tip-off and to AVA for their partnership.

We are grateful for the donation from Dr. Geh Min, our Gala Dinner 2010 supporter, who made this investigation possible.

Best wishes,
ACRES
